Issue brief on Niger: Trafficking in persons

image.png

Niger is an origin, transit, and destination country for trafficking in persons in West Africa due to its geographic position at the centre of trans-Saharan migratory and trade routes; poor socio-economic conditions; and instability created by spill-over from conflicts along its borders.

Both organised and opportunistic criminal elements are most likely to be trafficking in persons within and through Niger.

This issue brief draws on data from a wide range of sources to draw conclusions about the state of human trafficking in Niger as at March 2023.
