The dark web requires skills and understanding to access and investigate safely and effectively. In "Illuminating the Dark Web," learners will explore the different dark nets and the challenges of attribution. The course will cover how to configure your client to safely access and search the dark web, as well as monitor and investigate it.  

 

Hands-on experience will be a key component, and learners will gain practical skills in accessing the dark web. By the end of the course, students will have a deep understanding of the dark web and be able to use OSINT techniques to navigate and investigate it safely and effectively.

Understand the technical details of the Tor network, client, and network attribution in order to create a dark web OSINT platform for research. 

Identify and investigate different types of actors on the dark web, such as marketplaces, forums, and illicit services. 

Identify dark web communication channels, including encrypted messaging and email services. 

Learn about other dark nets, such as I2P, Freenet, and Lokinet, and understand how to navigate and investigate them. 

Develop effective collection methodologies for verifying and analysing dark web information, such as identifying sources. 

Understand the use of cryptocurrency on the dark web and how to track transactions and addresses.

Who is it for?

The course is aimed at a broad range of professionals who seek to understand the dark web and be able to effectively investigate individuals and threats, including: 

Law enforcement who require tools and knowledge necessary to investigate criminal activity on the dark web, including cybercrime, human trafficking, and drug trafficking.  

Cybersecurity professionals who need to identify and investigate the dark web as a potential source of threat intelligence and a platform for cyberattacks. 

Intelligence professionals in the military, government agencies, and private sector who are responsible for analysing and monitoring foreign or domestic threat actors will also find this course useful.  

Journalists and researchers who want to investigate stories or conduct research on topics that are not accessible on the surface web. It will provide them with the knowledge and skills to navigate the Dark Web safely and ethically, and to uncover information that is not readily available through traditional means.

Format and cost

Illuminating The Dark Web is a one-day instructor-led course with a focus on practical activities – due to the hands-on nature of the course, groups are limited to 15. We will provide post-course resources and further reading to maximise learning outcomes and underpin students’ ongoing professional development. Please contact the training team for availabilities and cost. 

Alternatively  the self-paced virtual course Illuminating the Dark Web can be completed through the OSINT Combine Academy.
